While I'm new to the Bikram yoga practice, and my experience has only been with one studio and five different instructors, my experience with it has been completely positive. The instructors are truly interested in the well-being of their students. I have seen direct benefits for myself: increased energy and strength both physically and mentally. Other instructors, students or former students/instructors may have different experiences, and I welcome their input here.

This discussion is more about Copyright law than Choundhury. Copyright law is flawed, I think we can both agree on that point. It needs to be repealed or dramatically changed.

Choundhury isn't guilty of being a sleazebag, he's guilty of being a capitalist.

I would consider abusing US intellectual property laws to milk money out of a spiritual tradition with thousands of years of precedence most certainly "contemptibly low, mean, or disreputable".

But, as you fairly pointed out, that is for each person to decide on their own.

@Cole

I'm aware that Bikram is controversial, and yes, he has gotten rich teaching his version of yoga. His version of yoga definitely works for me, and I enjoy practicing. I'll let others judge for themselves whether or not they think he's a sleazebag. Based upon the definition of "sleazy" @ Grupthink, he isn't, though.
sleazy /slizi, slezi/ [slee-zee, sley-zee]
adjective, -zier, -ziest.

1.contemptibly low, mean, or disreputable: sleazy politics.
2.squalid; sordid; filthy; dilapidated: a sleazy hotel.
3.thin or poor in texture, as a fabric; cheap; flimsy: a sleazy dress; a sleazy excuse.

The film to which you linked in the Grupthink answer may help some to decide for themselves:

FYI, the words "Bikram Choudhury is a total sleazebag" up above are a link. The comments section doesn't seem to have a visual cue for this except on mouseover.-

Good to hear you've been getting yer ya-ya's out doing that yoga thing; However, Bikram Choudhury is a total sleazebag. His (apparently copyrighted) version of yoga is about as far as you possibly could get from what I feel it is really all about.
